Stamp Out Piracy – Cracking down on Game Piracy across the Internet
August 18th, 2007- A new initiative called Stamp Out Piracy,
www.stampoutpiracy.com has been setup to help crack down and reduce the
amount of game piracy that takes place over the Internet. Large software
companies are not the only ones who are affected by piracy. Small
Independent Game Developers are also victims to this illegal activity.
“As Independent Game Developers ourselves we find that people see it as
“ok” to download illegal pirate versions of games”, explains the CEO of
StampOutPiracy.com.
“We’re working closely with other Indie Developers and some larger game
companies/portals to help to reduce the amount of game piracy as well as
trying to re-educate people into thinking differently about piracy”.
Stamp Out Piracy is a free service that has received a lot of support
from the Indie Gaming scene so far. As well as reporting whole warez
sites, blogs, forums and Ebay listings so they have their content
removed, Stamp Out Piracy also has illegal files removed from file
sharing accounts on a daily basis.
The owner of the initiative adds that “File sharing websites need to
take a more active approach towards keeping game piracy off their
servers. At the moment most warez sites or forums host their files on
file sharing accounts like these.”
You can visit Stamp Out Piracy at www.stampoutpiracy.com. The website
will be changing on an ongoing basis but it so far features a quick and
easy form which people can use to report piracy, information and
articles to help educate and suggestions on how other people can get
involved.
If you’re an Independent Game Developer or a gaming company and would
like to get involved then please email the Stamp Out Piracy Team at
