How come I’ve never seen this segment on the JB site?
January 14, 2013@ 11:58 pm
The new Jupiter@Nite episodes prompted me to watch the old Joint Failures. John is almost a North American Karl Pilkington! Love it!

sorry guys but maby you should be clearer on your titles , as “Is Software Piracy Immoral?” as a title , then having to sit through half an hour of Non related material , is well ,Not Good!…
January 15, 2013@ 1:39 am
Rocky IV featured Rocky in the Mountains,
Cliffhanger took place in the Rocky Mountains
Coincidence?

I agree, sort of. If you looked at my other comment about morality as a social distinction, you would see that I hold the same to be true. The problem then lies in actually changing the law. Individually someone cannot change a law, but the majority can. This country was designed to move slowly as far as changing laws is concerned. While I do agree that some media and software should be free, I do not think it will happen until the majority of the US agrees, and makes it an issue for Congress.
January 15, 2013@ 3:06 am
Laws come from More’s (popular belief in what is “right”) therefore if everyone thinks its okay to “pirate” stuff than you can in fact make up your own laws.
January 15, 2013@ 3:12 am
I use Linux so I have no software piracy problems. However, I would not pay for most of the software for home use if I was using MS products, because prices are crazy.
Software privacy is the only reason why people use Windows on massive scale. If everybody had to pay 300$ for Windows and even more for Office every few years, than for antivirus program and firewall, nobody would use Windows at least not in countries (most of the world) where price is comparable to monthly pay.
January 15, 2013@ 3:33 am
how is this one a bad thing?.. this is where the man helped you out.. since you can’t be prosecuted for making copies of stuff you lost
January 15, 2013@ 4:27 am
how is piracy not stealing.. you are setting yourself you for a world of pain.. you can’t just make up your your own laws. taking intellectual property is still taking property… it does not matter if you delete it later.
January 15, 2013@ 5:20 am
moral is a social distinction and ruled by us law. that means that if it is illegal, it is immoral. However, if you take software for legitimate educational purposes, then it is legal.(if caught you would have to prove it was for educational purposes) At least that is what I got from US CODE Title 17.
January 15, 2013@ 6:12 am
according to US CODE Tile 17 section 108. it is permissible to create copies of lost or damaged media. Or to back up any media you have(up to 3 copies)

I’ve owned about (store bought) over 1,000 cd’s, over 600 vhs tapes, about 200 games, 200 dvds, 1,000 cassette tapes. I tend to download shit I’ve owned b4 because I lost it. i buy the new shit i really like. I just like to have the physical cd COVER etc. and dvd cases, game cases, manuals. I’ve only every download bioshock and devil may cry 4. didn’t really get into either of them and thought they wasted 8 gigs of my 30 gig limit. man was I pissed.
January 15, 2013@ 7:01 am
since piracy isent really stealing, its copying a non essential item, i got no problem with it for people who really want a game but cant afford it cause of greedy companies, there are just sooo many games coming out these days that arent worth 50 dollars and i would never buy them anyways, so i download them play them for 2 days then bin it, games i know will be good like bioware games i buy on the spot
January 15, 2013@ 7:34 am
I only but things if their worth money. I have an ipod touch and i try apps by downloading cracked version and if i like it i buy it from the app store. if i dont like it i delete it. I do the same for all software.
With games i do the same as “elredplague” but i still buy it if its a good game
I do this because a good developers have to eat and bad developers should starve so we dont get anymore bad apps xD
January 15, 2013@ 8:16 am
If the game has any multiplayer I buy it.
If it is single player, sorry developers you don’t get no money from me.
January 15, 2013@ 8:57 am
Sure, it’s moral. If they can’t price their products properly, tough luck. There’s no way an average student (school or university) or someone working on a low-paid job can afford 50€ games + X number of 5€ DLC (which, notably enough, are often a lot more interesting than the core game itself). Lower the price, offer longer demos and distribute it via something DRM-free like Impulse (or, to a lesser extent, Steam).
January 15, 2013@ 9:37 am
i might pirate a game to see if it runs (OR if it’s super duper old), but i’m not a huge pirate guy.
January 15, 2013@ 9:45 am
When you watch Christmas specials, do you play a DVD or wait for it to be broadcast on TV?
January 15, 2013@ 10:23 am
LOL@ the santa picture
creamy peanut butter
As for the piracy I think of it as a research. If there is no demo of a program I will download it, see if it suits my needs and then buy a legimate copy to support the developers. Same for music or games, try it. If you like it then buy it to support. If I like the game I will buy legitimate copy and play multi and have fun with my friends. It also gives programs, music, anything free advertisement, the better peace of software the more popular it is.
January 15, 2013@ 10:27 am
Maybe you should upload to your facebook as well. I can’t even watch it with youtube messing up every 5 sec. I know another guy I follow that loads onto facebook and they play without a hitch there.
have a good one
January 15, 2013@ 11:19 am
they lose money when a store buys the game, not when we buy it. and even if what you said was true, people can download roms instead of games, which is a loss for a company.
and EVEN if all that was wrong, even if emulation was good for the company, it still woulnd’t change the fact that it’s piracy.
January 15, 2013@ 12:14 pm
Omg I think I lost a few brain cells just by reading your retarded comment, The systems are sold at below their actual value, The company is LOSING money if you buy a console, they just want you to buy the games, so if you buy legal games, insert the discs in your PC’s drive and emulate the game, the console manufacturing company should be fucking thankful for the fact they haven’t lost anything on a sale of a console!
January 15, 2013@ 12:56 pm
if you download an emulator instead of buying a system, that’s piracy. if you download/emulate a game instead of buying it, that’s piracy. those are facts.
January 15, 2013@ 1:17 pm
Dude, Are you retarded? Emulators aren’t piracy, You can pirate Wii games and play them on a homebrewed wii, And you can boot off retail discs, And Nintendo should be Thankful you’re using an emulator, Because The wii is sold below it’s actual value and the loss is made up on licensed games, so if you only buy games to play them on the dolphin emulator, you’re not making them any initial loses as you would if you bought an actual wii!
January 15, 2013@ 1:48 pm
well no shit, of course it’s an emulator, emulators are piracy.
i agree about EA though. they are the biggest pirces of shit in gaming and although i’m against piracy, i also hope EA goesbankrupt, friggin online pass cunts, i wouldn’t mind people at EA all getting shot in the face.
January 15, 2013@ 1:52 pm
Yes, but it’s only MP3s, not FLACs!
January 15, 2013@ 2:28 pm
Basically, this is one reason people pirate, For instance on Itunes you get 256 Kbit/s AACs on Torrents you can get FLACs, sure there exist a few online music stores that sell lossless music, but the selection is usually very small and it’s overpriced, and for games and Steam, the legal/Steam version often (And in steam’s case always if I’m not mistaken) has DRM and pirated version doesn’t, so many people would rather pirate it!
January 15, 2013@ 3:28 pm
What an Idiot, Dolphin is an emulator not a way to pirate shit, and companies like EA deserve to go bankrupt!
January 15, 2013@ 4:03 pm
piracy=stealing, but censorship bills are worse than piracy.
i’m anti piracy, but i’m much more anti censorship.
but the compaines aren’t blameless. 60$ for a game that’s not even complete?
that’s one of the reasons why i consider dolphin the worst kind of worst piracy. wii games are cheaper and they’re complete – wii’s online service makes DLC/patching not an option. pay less, get full game, don’t pirate.
…and i like owning a physical game, not digital illusion of ownership
cool vid though

One thing which I think is a good idea is maybe for the film studio to offer a discount if you went and saw the film at the theaters upon its release. Discount for the ticket price. That way the film company would still make their royalties through the theater, and people would be encouraged to buy a legit copy instead of ‘pirating’ it.
January 15, 2013@ 5:42 pm
I would like it if more people bought movies legally – I really would. But the prices are outrageous on some titles that aren’t even new. Some films you can’t even find anymore – I had a hard time finding a 1981 movie called Thief and it just happened to pop up on Amazon. Let’s take The Wonder Years as an example. You cannot purchase a legitimate version of this anywhere – therefore in a situation like that – piracy is the only alternative.
January 15, 2013@ 5:46 pm
Your video clip is used to teach English in South Korea by EBS Radio at 6AM!! thanks..
January 15, 2013@ 5:53 pm
there are alternatives for music for example where it’s really easy to get mp3s on legal ways.
i buy direct from amazon, you just search your fav song in the searchbar, then it’s yours in a mouseclick and 1 less euro in your pocket.
for movies there is Netflix but it is not available yet in Germany unfortunatelly, so I must go out and buy Dvd’s.

My Thoughts on Piracy: Free speech (creativity, etc.) wanted to be seen….

I’m just a broke ass student.
January 15, 2013@ 7:10 pm
Yo Dean, I know it’s kind of against Your video trend, but I wouldn’t mind You making a video longer than 3 minutes. I mean, a lot of people that have long videos start to lose their audience at about 4-5 minutes…. more or less, but You? You’re Awesome! You can totally pull it off, in fact, that’s the only complaint I have sometimes, YOUR VIDEOS ARE TOO SHORT BRO
January 15, 2013@ 7:46 pm
while that might be right its not always the case, i personally have accasionally taken the easier route of getting it off youtube, simply because i dont want to have to go to my parents to ask for their credit card for every song i want, it would just be ridiculous, i dont really care about the money, i could pay my parents a dollar for me getting the song off itunes, i just dont have the time nor want to ask them for every song i want, when i become 18 i might actually pay for it
January 15, 2013@ 8:37 pm
I disagree completely, people not only priate because it is less hassle downloading something then going in to a store, but because it is free and they save money.
I know people personally who live in China (my brother’s wife is Chinese and lived there for 25 years), and everyone there pirates because they believe software should always be “free”, and it saves themselves money.
January 15, 2013@ 9:06 pm
Self-chosen risk taking entrepreneurs, such as artist, have no right whatsoever to expect to be paid for their work or creation. They only have a right to a monetary reward if they sell something. If they don’t sell anything, they should get no money whatsoever. That’s how entrepreneurship and the free market works.

I have over 12TB downloaded (1100 Movies), (Music 94,646 songs) TV Shows
January 15, 2013@ 9:46 pm
Totally agree.
January 15, 2013@ 10:04 pm
no, because almost half of the money, the provider gets. if artists sold it themselves they would make a lot more money
January 15, 2013@ 11:03 pm
So well articulated!
